The Last Sunrise
Saturday, September 20, 2008

It’s approximately 8pm now. 12 hours from now, the sun will be up, students will be in school, parents will be on their way to work and yet another day has begun. It’s often good to realize that we can't assume that these 12 hours will come.

What if they don't?
If we knew that 12 hours is all we have left, after which we, and all the people we ever knew would be reduced to memories, will we do what we are planning to do? Will we regret treating certain people in certain ways? Will we want to say sorry to those we let down? Or even assure those who might doubt our love for them?
It’s more commonly known as living as though there was no tomorrow. Would we be thus impatient to those close to us, knowing that it might very well be the last time we're seeing these individuals?

I guess not. The best in human nature is only exhibited when we know that this is the last. That’s the thing about human beings isn't it?

All we bother about is the last. We only realize at the very end, that if there were no tomorrow, whom would I want to see, for one last time, in the last few hours. Of course our families are one group we will want to be with, and thank them for being such wonderful parents/siblings in our lives.

Of course should there be a last sunrise, for those who've felt the greatest of all emotions known to mankind, the one whom we'd spend the last minutes with, is none other than the one whom we proclaim to love beyond boundaries, and promised to love for eternity. Though these promises might no longer mean anything to the other party, and if they did, the last minutes of our consciousness would be spent with nothing but the memories made to last forever.

At those last moments, will we forgive the ones we once loved, or face destruction holding on to the belief that those feelings that once burned so strongly that they left a scar in our hearts have vanished into thin air forever? For those who made their mistakes once, will we lower our pride, to admit our mistake in exchange for the last few moments of bliss, to admit that the feelings since then had never burnt out, and show to those we really love, what it means to say, "I love you".

What would you do with your last few moments?
